In war terms, strategy involves large-scale, long-range planning and development. Tactics deal with the deployment and use of troops in actual combat. In short, strategy is the big-picture stuff.
Tactics are the nitty-gritty, in-the-trenches details.
Neither Garrett Gunderson, my 5 Day Weekend collaborator, nor I can tell you what tactics you should use for your own 5 Day Weekend strategy, or what your specific, day-to-day plan should look like. Everyone is different. Everyone has different interests, strengths, and opportunities. We’ve laid out the map. Now you must navigate the territory.
No two 5 Day Weekend plans will look the same. But, in the big picture, here’s what they’ll all have in common:
- Obsessive Focus on Freedom
5 Day Weekenders aren’t your typical 9 to 5 types. They don’t live plan on working for someone else for forty years so they can collect a pension check. They don’t sell out their dreams for the illusory “security” of a “safe” and comfortable job.
They are warrior-entrepreneurs who are obsessively and relentlessly focused on freedom at all costs. They do whatever it takes, and for as long as it takes to break free. They will never be satisfied until they are financially free—and even then they don’t coast, but rather continue building progressively more freedom.
They get back up each time they fall. They learn from their failures and get smarter, wiser, and closer to success each time they fail. They never give up.
- Thinking Outside the Box
5 Day Weekenders have unplugged from the Matrix. They see through the lies and vested interests of corporations and the me- dia. They understand the ne print and read between the lines of the “social contract.” They color outside the lines. They rattle the cages of societal norms.
They never do things because “that’s the way it’s always been done.” They live life on their terms. They are mavericks and renegades, pioneers and explorers, creators and innovators. They’re constantly looking for ways to do things smatter, better, bigger.
- Cash Flow Investing—Not Accumulation
5 Day Weekenders don’t invest in long-term accumulation vehicles that benefit financial institutions more than them. The invest in smarter, savvier vehicles that provide immediate and perpetual cash flow. They don’t read Money magazine or listen to popular pundits.
They understand that the path to freedom is cash flow, that financial independence comes from creating more independent cash flow than their expenses. And they know they don’t have to wait 30 years to create it.
- Focused Investing—Not Diversification
5 Day Weekenders don’t manage their risk by diversifying. On the contrary, they manage risk by focusing. They understand that diversification in mediocre investments is a passive, “hope-and- pray” strategy for the ignorant.
Warren Buffet says, “Diversification is protection against ignorance. It makes little sense if you know what you are doing.”
Although the ultimate goal of 5 Day Weekenders is to create independent cash flow, they take an active role in the investments they choose to deliver it. They don’t follow the crowd. They research every investment in great detail. They know exactly what they’re investing in. They know their exit strategy. Thus, they have much greater control over their investments.
- Strengths-Based Investing
5 Day Weekenders understand their Investor DNA—their passions, interests, strengths, and weaknesses as investors. They focus on the areas where they have knowledge, skill, and passion. They don’t stray into areas they don’t understand or have no passion for only because it can make them money. They know that the safest and best way to make money is to focus on what they do best.
They are also focused on creating and adding value. Since they know themselves well, they know how they can bring unique value to the table with any investment. They don’t just hand their money over to someone and hope for the best. They leverage their unique strengths and skills to improve investments.
- Living on Purpose
5 Day Weekenders aren’t in it just for the money. They understand that money is only a means to the ultimate end of financial freedom. And freedom isn’t about lying around on the beach all day every day—it’s about living on purpose.
They strive to make the world a better place. The more money they earn, the more impact they contribute with their purpose.
Financial independence isn’t the stopping for them—rather, it’s just the beginning.
In my next post, I’ll give you an outline of the next five steps you should take to embark on your 5 Day Weekend.
In the meantime, what is your ultimate goal with the 5 Day Weekend? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for sharing.
